At the time of the Bengal Famine of 1943, media outlets came under heavy pressure from the British Government not to produce truthful news to the people. Some of the great newspapers were forced to publish the government’s official stance that there were no food and rice shortages.

The use of selective news by the media houses and outlets produced dubious representations of the Sikh communities in India at the time of this Massacre. This is one of many reasons that the victims of the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots have not got justice till today.

The main purpose of journalism is to show unbiased news exactly to the people and not to impose some ideology. Journalists should present the original facts and figures of an incident, whether people like it or not. It is up to the people, to interpret them as per their mindset and conscience.
