GNP Marathi Times is becoming a prominent unbiased news platform in the Marathi Language in India. Most recently, it was launched from Thane, Maharashtra to provide genuine and true news to the people who can read Marathi.
In today’s world, people can hardly find unbiased news sources where they can read genuine news publications. Be it a newspaper or online news provider, everyone is leaned towards some ideas. Some are left-lovers and some are right-oriented.
What is Biased News?
When a piece of news is presented carefully in a selective manner, where some people can get benefit from it and some are not – it can be called biased news. Instead of presenting true facts and figures, news reporters and anchors present them in such a manner, where some ideologies get the profit, and other rival ideologies are at disadvantage.
Why there are Biased News?
Most of the news resources of today are biased. It is a sorry state of affairs that people need to read and hear the opinions of media personnel who have a tendency towards some ideology. And this is mostly related to the political system.
Political Bias
Politicians are powerful and affluent also. They have the ability to generate artificial opinions using their resource and money. So, they invest heavily in media channels and newspaper companies. These organizations work to preserve the interests of their masters or investors.
Bias by News Organizations
People can see that most of the newspapers and news channels provide news that does not harm the interests of their political mentors. And there are rival media outlets who constantly try to generate adversary opinions on the public mind against others. This way, we the ordinary people don’t get the actual news rather than someone's trashy opinions.
Bias in Business World
This scenario is also applied to the business world. Giant companies often buy or invest in major media outlets to keep their interests alive and create lovely opinions on people’s minds. They often try to harm the concerns of other rival business houses.
Left V/s Right
There is a constant and common war going on between the left and right ideologies. This is also popularly known as the clashes between liberals and conservatives. These people often try to polarize people by forcing their own opinions via news and media publications.
The instances of News Bias in India
Coverage of Bengal Famine of 1943
Since the British Raj, India has seen news bias many times. At the time of the Bengal Famine of 1943, media outlets came under heavy pressure from the British Government not to produce truthful news to the people. Some of the great newspapers were forced to publish the government’s official stance that there were no food and rice shortages.
Presentation of 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots
During the 1984 anti-Sikh Riots, it was reported that the media outlets came under heavy influence and pressure from the Central and State Governments not to produce truthful news. There were several thousand Sikhs killed, but the media was failed to show the truth to the nation and the World.
The use of selective news by the media houses and outlets produced dubious representations of the Sikh communities in India at the time of this Massacre. This is one of many reasons that the victims of the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots have not got justice till today.
Importance of Unbiased News
The main purpose of journalism is to show unbiased news exactly to the people and not to impose some ideology. Journalists should present the original facts and figures of an incident, whether people like it or not. It is up to the people, to interpret them as per their mindset and conscience.
